REFLEXION

The Global Learning Medallion gave the opportunity to explore and expand my knowledge of the world around around me.

Every single experience was rich and transforming because I was exposed to people with very different backgrounds, challenges and goals.

I realized that being a real global citizen takes more that traveling and learning other languages, it is about seeing the world through other eyes.

My visits to mosques and Hindu temples gave the opportunity to met very friendly and smart people. I heard their point of view and after a meal and some conversation, we were not that different. I learned that communication is key and being able to listen with an open mind is the answer to a more peaceful society.

Working with our veterans gave me a sense of civic responsibility and by volunteering in several events, I was able to thank back their sacrifice and service.

The planing and preparation of the City of Miami Second Homeless Stand Down taught me about the importance of planning and team work. The involvement of many groups required lots of focus and organization. We had to be on top of everything and everybody. The execution of the event demanded patience and hard work but the results were priceless. Every time I handed food or clothing to the attendees, I received a hug and a smile. At the end of the event, we all celebrated because we were able to show these men and women that we care about them because their lives matter.

The journey I started with the Global Learning Medallion program has not ended because of graduation, I am planning on using my new skills and knowledge to keep helping others for the rest of my life.
